Man, I have a crapload of things to catch up on. Could this be my crisis before my midlife crisis? It very well be. Since the turn of the decade (and also the end of a terrible 2009), there are plenty of things I need to catch up on. I mean, video game wise, skill-wise, fitness-wise (albeit, it's the least of my worries, just being on a break while I'm busy working). But most of all, what of the videos?
Sure, I mean I have been filming stuff with musclesportsweb.com but when was the last time you saw a short film from me. Probably never. I think the last time I made a short film piece was likely 2004-ish (though none of them have been released). But since then, we have HD arrive to the consumer and now even 3D videos are very close now.
Yes, I was one of the billions that saw Avatar in 3D. This was the first time I watched a movie in 3D. Very nice experience and worth seeing in 3D for the aesthetic and visual appearance, albeit, the story and plot was made for lowest common denominator. Nothing wrong with that, as anyone will enjoy it, but having been on the extreme ends of the spectrum of films sometime, I do look for something fresh (reminiscent of the Entertainment Chef character, for those who have been around since the start.)
I'm still shooting SD which is a bit of an evil. But geez, forget about HD video that I've been meaning to get myself into, but prosumer 3D video took another step towards reality with Panasonic's new "shotgun" of a camera Yeah $21K is a lot, but all things considering, especially for video professionals, it's quite a bargin. More scary are the workflows that are available with add-ons for less than $1K. No doubt they've been there for a while.
And while I'm not regretting it yet, mobile smart-phones certainly have taken off. I just don't really see a need for me to get one until later this year. I kinda need to as my profession increasingly requires one, I'm just split between Google and Apple's phone (plus I HATE the wireless offerings in Canada). I see it for the audience who always needs to stay connected. Nothing wrong with this. It shows how increasingly important social media is becoming and the news services have taken note of it. I don't think anybody has nailed it though. Most of the news sites focus around on-line opinion, but, the caveat is that giving too much power to the viewer basically will run you out of business. Imagine charging money to see someone else's opinion or news story. Good thing we have blogs... (or is that a bad thing?)
One thing I won't fall behind is HTML 5. I've pre-ordered my books. And will dig into that the moment they arrive in mid-march. You will most definitely see some progress on that and on my working out and other random blurbs here and there.
2010, so far so good...
